Coral Hips Piece
Project type
3D Model
Date
March 2026
To create the pieces for the hips, I imported the CLO avatar for size accuracy. I then meshed together several different sizes of coral pieces in Rhino until I achieved the form I wanted. Then I used the body as a cutting object to make sure that the pieces laid flat against the hips. And then I mirrored one side to the other to have symmetry on both sides of the hips. The print ended up being very large, so I had to split the file into 3 pieces on each side. I went into Bambu Studio, cut it 3 ways, and added dowel connectors so I could put in a little glue and piece them together securely. Then each piece had a print time of 20 hours, for a total of 120 hours for all 6 parts. Then, once I had pieced them together, I used a soldering iron to blend all the seams and create small holes in the print for me to hand-sew onto my garment. After that, I sanded it to fully perfect the seams.
