Look 2 - Emergence

This look captures the earliest stage of my medical transition. Within the first three months of starting estrogen, I began noticing changes in my hips and chest and I remember how incredibly painful that breast development was. Any physical contact would cause immense pain.
But beyond the physical, it was an emotionally complicated time for me. I was developing a body I had always wanted, but I didn’t feel ready to show it yet. It wasn't until almost a full year on estrogen that I changed my name and pronouns, so in between that time I felt I had to conceal what was happening with me.

Throughout this collection, blue represents who I was before my transition and red represents the transition itself. In this look, red begins to emerge only in the areas that were first changing. The rest of the body remains covered in blue, because the rest of my body had yet to change.
